It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.
Sometimes, when faced with a decision to make, I’d always feel life would be easier when we have someone to tell us exactly what to do at every moment or point in time. Then, it would not be seen as freedom anymore, we would be trapped in the footing of ‘always being right’.
The older we grow, the more life changing choices we would make. From simple things such as using three or two cubes of sugar or none at all to choosing to be in a lifelong relationship or not. However, some choices are so easy, they won’t even feel like a choice. It’s not like you make a choice and then you’re done. More like our personal finances. To think you won’t have any financial need again after settling the one on ground and then boom, there’s a need for a whole lot of stuffs that were never there at first. So yeah, how limited are our choices when we come from completely different worlds?
Limited in the context of having less option to work with.
What my friends might deem as the best option for me would not be the same for me and thinking of it now, it might be the best option for you. Or not. The options we choose does not matter as much as making the decision, doing the work and letting life be.
We are our choices- Jean-Paul Sartre
WHO’S ASKING QUESTIONS?
For every choice we make, why follows. The issue then becomes who is asking the question. If you’re the one behind the why, then fine. This is because our actions would be consistent and compatible with the results we get and sometimes, they would not. But as earlier stated, letting life be. Why am I going into a relationship? Am I making the right move switching jobs or quiting the one I have? Why did I take the chicken instead of the chest? The questions are best answered if you’re the one asking in every form of honesty. You’re going with your guts.
REDUCES THE FEAR OF MAKING WRONG CHOICES
Limiting choices is not about curbing growth or ignoring what we value. It’s about choosing one thing for a particular area of your life and moving on.
WE GET MORE CLARITY!
When our choices are limited, it means we have less things to worry or think about. It’s either a yes or a no. No more sitting on the fence. The fact that we get more clarity lies in our ability to limit our choices to the ones that seem more reasonable. This clarity will for sure give us peace of mind.
So if you ask again, how limited our choices are, I’d say and I know they are unlimited. But we are limited by the ones we make.
