So I typed my introduction for this article and boom my brother peeked and reminded me of what I said earlier. Quoting me, ‘I don’t need to prove anything to anyone’ and voila here I am writing about action making you smarter.
‘People may doubt what you say, but they will believe what you do.’- Lewis Cass
Still in the spirit of the ‘new year’, having set goals and for most of us, written them down. Truth is we can’t leave the letters in the papers without taking actions to see that they are actualised. Every action we make could be everything. You could take a scenario of a teacher asking a random question in the classroom and nobody being able to give the correct answer.
Meanwhile everyone is probably thinking of what to say and what not to say, if they are right or wrong. Moving forward, the teacher says the answer and you hear things like ‘’I wanted to say it or I had it in mind’. Long story short, no one spoke. No answer. Class continues. (because ‘saying’ it in your mind made you become more participative in class. Said nobody anywhere ever).
The challenge then becomes brooding less and doing more. Helping to develop the habit of acting are 10 things to have in mind. (Did I just type mind?) I mean to work with.
Envision the end from the beginning
Starting out can be quite a tasking assignment with lots of fear and doubts. At this point, you’re trying to figure a lot of things out, trying to make everything look and be perfect and trying to have everything figured out. Which is not a bad idea at all. Even if we don’t know where we are going to, we should know where we are coming from and I doubt if it will be wrong for me to say vice versa. Be true to yourself and sometimes, care less about what anybody has to say. You alone know where you are on to. Franklin Covey rightly said, begin with the end in mind.
Walk the baby steps.
Sounded like do the David dance (we’ll do that very soon) this entails breaking your big goal into baby goals. Ever heard of if your dreams don’t scare you, they are not big enough? Well, dreams becoming too big that they scare you. Be scared anyways, but go for it. Who says you have to loose 5kg in a day? Why don’t you keep keeping on?
Keep your eye on the prize
Remember beginning with the end in mind? Well, nobody said it was going to be easy but the train keeps moving. The inducement to relent can be crushing and inspiration fleeting but reminding yourself of why you want to achieve your goal in the first place puts things back into focus.
Don’t be shy to say hi…
No man is an island and whether an introvert or extrovert, we need people. Relationships are an essential for learning, unlearning and growing. Learning from the best via various platforms, reading. Having a mentor really helps and propels us to do better. No matter what direction or course you’re on to, you’re not the first to wear those shoes.
…And remember you have a voice too.
Ever heard a song being played and you’re thinking about another artiste (which on a second thought, your guess was wrong). Being a clone of something or someone doesn’t make you any different of impactful. You’ve got to stay true to you.
Be prepared to make sacrifices.
What’s significant, a feeling of I was almost there until…or I’m where I ought to be. Prioritizing is very important for us to make the best of what we can do. You can’t be everywhere at a time; neither can you do everything at a stretch. Baby brother or sister bugging you in the sitting room, leave for a quieter place. Roomie or neighbour always with the hot gist, turn down the noise if you’re in the process of activating your hustle muscle. Not everything is important.
Time crooks exist. Watch out!
Default setting- notifications always on plus you wake up on a very good day and decide to check your mails which leads you to Medium and next thing, you’re on the gram and boom! It was just for ‘a while’. Know that feeling right? A whole lot of time bandits out there. Still on it, prioritise.
Sometimes, take a break.
That’s all there is for point 8. 😉
Evolve, go forward, advance, evolve
They literally mean the same thing. You don’t have to be too rigid to prove that you have a standard when there are a million easier ways to do that task better. Clinging to beliefs that were dead-wrong and information that are so wrong will drown your odds of success faster than you can say (that name you call every time again? Say Jack what…) brace yourself for the realization that you can’t know everything every time. You are not google or Wikipedia. Keep on improving, keep on trying, keep on failing, keep on getting better.
Go do something. Act!
The more you take action, the smarter you become.
Coincidentally, Rounding this up and my brother strolls into my room with a bottle of drink and my sister eating slowly and I shouted I need one and voila I get it. Sister said it was in her mind. Bottom line is nobody cares what’s in your mind. Show it and then we know.
Stay confident lovelies,
PS: I actually contradicted myself. Read first paragraph and last. Action matters.
